Pujo & Associates is a small architectural firm specializing
in residential and light commercial projects in the urban areas of
Santa Barbara County’s South Coast.
Alex Pujo founded the firm in 1991 with the reconstruction of
several residences destroyed in the Painted Cave fire. He was
one of the first local architects to switch to computer-assisted
design (CAD), now the industry standard.
Alex is an advocate of traditional urban planning, historic
preservation and pedestrian access. This framework usually
consists of an interconnected grid of narrow streets with
canopy trees, front porches, mixed use, and transit.
Most of our projects are located within the urban grid
and consist of remodels, additions and intensification
of existing uses. Our emphasis is on small-scale, understated
designs that fit within the urban context, using traditional
details that are practical and reliable.
Our multi-family residential designs have successfully fit
into traditional neighborhoods of 1920’s Craftsman architecture
by organizing the site plan around pedestrian access, placing
front porches in prominent locations, and locating parking out of sight.
Alex Pujo was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1971 he emigrated to New York, where he studied Graphic Design and Advertising. Alex arrived in Santa Barbara in 1974 and worked as a graphic designer for the next six years. He studied Architecture in San Luis Obispo, and returned to Santa Barbara after graduation.
